Linen Closet Makeover

Posted by Zahra Alia on

If you follow along on Instagram, you know I love to marry function + beauty in the spaces I DIY. Don't get me wrong, I believe an organized space is priority but there is something special about a space that is aesthetically pleasing and organized, don't you agree? This was my goal for our linen closet and I really love how it turned out!

The showstopper is this gorgeous grey floral peel & stick wallpaper that I still can't get enough of! It really transformed the space and still has me leaving the door wide open! Just for reference, I used almost two rolls of wallpaper to cover the entire closet space. I know that this can be expensive depending on the size of your space but I think the quality speaks for itself and I trust the quality of this brand. I really believe that you get what you pay for (most times, that is).

I've never applied traditional wallpaper so I can't entirely speak to both options but this particular peel & stick was very forgiving and super easy to apply. It looks even better in person! I highly recommend using peel & stick, especially if you like to change things around overtime. It is also super renter friendly too!

Next up was the fun part: organizing the space! I knew I wanted soft cotton style storage baskets for this space because they're easy to move around if needed and they're perfect to store softer items inside such as blankets and linens. I think the style and type of basket you choose for each space is important, whether the basket has holes or a lid, whether they can stack or be moved around easily.

I wanted the colour of the baskets to match the soft grey from the wallpaper, creating a cohesive look throughout the space. The baskets I used in my space are no longer available but I've rounded up a couple options below for you that are very similar.

  1. This set of stylish rope baskets available in a variety of sizes for a great price and would be perfect to store pillowcases, cleaning rags, smaller baby items, and extra hygiene products
  2. This woven rope basket with handles is perfect to create a uniform look and is very similar to the large sized basket I have in my linen closet
  3. These rectangle two-toned baskets with handles available in a pack of 3 for an amazing price and look very durable and spacious

Just a reminder to measure your space before purchasing any product, I've learned this the hard way! If you have a lot of linens and storage, I would purchase larger baskets for your space. In our house, it is just the two of us and we live minimally with only a couple sets of sheets and towels.

An essential part to organizing with baskets are the bin clips! They allow you to clearly label the contents in each basket and they're stylish too. Every time I post these bins clips, I get dozens of questions. These acrylic bin clips come in a pack of 3 and are worth the hype! They're about 3" wide and look beautiful with 3" white or black vinyl labels.
